Reflective Essay

For this microteaching, I taught the song Draw a Bucket of Water. I felt that my teaching went pretty well. I sang the song accurately and did not ask the class what they wanted to do. I was definite with my instructions (that was a result of good planning) and the lesson went quickly. The song was appropriate for this class, and my singing ability, because it was not too long or too hard, but fun to sing.
To prepare for this teaching, I first went to the basement of Bracken Library to find a song. I left there with copies of two songs, one of which was Draw a Bucket of Water. The next day, I went to a practice room and played and sung these songs, and decided that this one was more interesting and better to teach. I then sang it until I was comfortable with it and had memorized it, and then I “taught” the class in my mind. Basically, I just went step-by-step through how I was going to teach it, including the parts where the class repeats after me as well as having the class sing it by itself at the end. This preparation left me feeling confident that I would teach well.
I suppose that the song could have been a little longer, or more difficult, in order to practice teaching harder concepts. Without a video to watch, I would guess that I probably spoke quickly and perhaps was somewhat difficult to understand, because I tend to do that. Otherwise, to be honest, I thought that my microteaching went really well.
